Record Details

NHER Number:28524
Type of record:Monument
Name:Site of Roman settlement, medieval settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

Prehistoric flint implements, a Bronze Age axehead, Bronze Age casting waste, and Iron Age pottery have been found by metal detecting and fieldwalking. The amount of Roman pottery, coins, brooches and other metalwork suggests that this may have been the site of a Roman settlement. An Early Saxon brooch, a Late Saxon stirrup terminal, and medieval and post medieval pottery, coins and metalwork, including a medieval mount in the shape of a griffon's head, have also been found on the site by metal detecting and fieldwalking. The medieval finds recovered from the site suggest that this may have been a settlement area.
