NHER Number:25948
Type of record:Monument
Name:Possible site of Late Saxon/medieval mill and multi-period finds

Summary

The possible site of Late Saxon and/or medieval watermill and multi-period finds. It has been suggested that a watermill mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and in 14th century documents was situated here, although no above ground evidence survives. Metal detecting and fieldwalking has led to the recovery of Iron Age, Roman, Early Saxon and medieval objects. These include fragments of pottery fragments, part of an Early Saxon brooch and part of a Late Saxon buckle plate or strap fitting.
