Summary

Fenland fieldwalking in 1988 recorded a scatter of prehistoric flints and pot boilers at this location. Metal detecting in the same area during 2004 recovered a Roman cosmetic mortar.

Full description

4 March 1988. Fenland fieldwalking, good conditions, young cereal, weathered soil. East of Black Bank Drove, north of Ringmore Drove
Context 1: general scatter odd flints and single medieval sherd, on loamy sand east edge of island. Site SRY AX.
Context 2: at 6302 9535, concentration of pot boilers, sparse, locally moderate. One flint only. On east side of island, on slope just above fen. 38m northeast-southwest x 28m northwest-southeast at 3.7m OD. Site SRY 14.
Context 3: at 6302 9530 concentration sparse pot boilers in east slope of island above fen, short distance only from context 2. 30m northeast-southwest x 27m northwest-southeast at 2.4m OD. Site SRY 15.
