Name:Middle Saxon to medieval pottery sherds, undated copper fragments

Summary

Fieldwalking in 1986 recovered a number of medieval pottery sherds, which may represent a concentration in the northern part of this field. Metal detecting and fieldwalking in 1996 in the west part of the field recovered two undiagnostic copper alloy fragments near the northwest corner, and a small number of Saxon pottery sherds.

Full description

1 May 1986. Former orchard. Fieldwalking winter cereal well advanced. Little Holme Field.
Odd medieval sherds, quite frequent and possible that there may have been a concentration in north part of the field, where crop is too dense for easy recognition.

18 January 1996. Metal detecting and fieldwalking in west part of field. Well developed cereal, poor surface visibility.
Very iron signals. Two undiagnostic bronze fragments near northwest corner.
One Middle Saxon Ipswich sandy body sherd and one Middle Saxon Ipswich pimply base.
One body sherd Late Saxon Thetford-type.
