Full description

9 April 1984. Fenland Fieldwalking Ploughed and well weathered field except for harrowed strip 20m wide.
Context 1 = odd sherds medieval pottery over field.
Context 2 at 5733 1574. Moderate spread medieval pottery, shell moderate bone sparse. Later post medieval building rubble moderate. Some post medieval pottery and glass. Medieval material thins out to north. South edge of spread not defined for field harrowed recently, so north-to-south measurement 88m is minimum; 36m east-to-west maximum. On north edge smallish roddon, probably but not certainly against medieval drove.
Context 3 at 5737 1593. Concentration late medieval? Pottery, moderate. Shell dense, bone abundant, building rubble in form of fired clay (probably brick) fragments dense. These spread beyond medieval pottery distribution. Visible from distance as dark stain and set on roughly rectangular area up to 0.8m high which would seem to be artificial rather than roddon. On drove edge. 57 x 61m.
TYL 13 (S1), TYL AO (S2).
Compiled by R. Silvester (NAU), 9 April 1984.

Some of the material from Context 1 has been reidentified as Roman pottery.
