Name:Roman object concentration, medieval objects

Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 by the Fenland Survey recovered a few sherds of medieval pottery from the west of this field. A concentration of Roman pottery sherds was also noted, along with bone pieces and a quern fragments, and a small number of medieval pottery sherds. Metal detecting in 1992 discovered a medieval coin and seal matrix.

Full description

4 April 1984. Fenland Fieldwalking. Field of ridged up daffodil rows with weeds between, horrendous conditions. Possibly close to filled in dyke and roddon.
Context 2: at above grid reference. Spread of Roman sherds sparse to medium, bone sparse, quern fragment. 65 x 50m very approximate. Some of the material from Context 2 has been reidentified as medieval pottery. WPP 80 (S1).

10 October 1984. Poor conditions - disced (sic) but not well weathered.
Context 1: remainder of field walked. Odd sherds medieval pottery mainly towards west. WPP EU (S2).
