Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 by the Fenland Survey recovered a small number of medieval pottery sherds. Two medieval coins have also been recovered from this area, and metal detecting in 1993 also recovered a very nice late medieval double-hooked fastener made of copper alloy.

6 March 1984. Ploughed area on side of drove in well weathered soil. (S1)
Odd sherds medieval pottery = Context 1. TSJ AS (S2).

Farthing of Edward III, London mint, 1343 - 1355.
Not seen NAU to identify (but object seen briefly by R. Silvester).
Identification said to be by a local antique dealer.

October 1993.
Very nice late medieval double-hooked fastener made of bronze strip, twisted in centre, surfaces decorated with rocker-arm ornament; the hooked ends are flattened and tapering to a sharp point.
