Full description

16 March 1984. Fenland Fieldwalking well weathered ploughsoil.
Context 1: General scatter medieval pottery. And twenty-eight Late Saxon sherds. (S1).
Context 2: Concentration of medieval pottery (moderate) and post medieval sherds. Shell, bone and fired clay abundant. Obviously a post medieval building here but also medieval site as well. Shell and bone tail off to south but little pot here. Main site on pronounced roddon. 29 x 30m, extending at least another 30m to south.
Some of the material from this context has been reidentified as a silver coin and three Late Saxon sherds. (S2).
Context 3: Concentration moderate medieval and post medieval pot. Shell moderate. Bone and fired clay fragments moderate to abundant, latter particularly so in west of area. Twenty-three Late Saxon sherds (archive). West limit scatter not properly defined owing to harrowing. One bronze ring and small ?modern bronze key. On top large roddon. 27 x 24m minimum. (S3).
