Summary

Fieldwalking in 1983 and 1996 and the Fenland Survey in 1986 recovered scatters of prehistoric flints, together with Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and medieval pottery sherds. Metal-detecting in 2013 recovered medieval coins, a Middle/Late Saxon hooked tag; a Late Saxon plate brooch; and a post-medieval silver head-dress pin.

Full description

26 April 1983. Fenland Fieldwork.
Single flint tool (field not yet walked).
Identified by R. Silvester (NAU), May 1983.

14 October 1986. Further Fenland fieldwork (WGY AC) shows that this was one of a scatter of flints.
Also prehistoric sherds (Iron Age?).
Possibly Roman and Ipswich ware sherds and Late Saxon sherds.
Note also site NHER 17286 which lies within this scatter.
Conditions: weathered soil, covered by oilseed rape.
Finds in the NCM.

Some of the material found has been reidentified as medieval pottery.
