Summary

Metal detecting here in 1982 recovered various items including a late medieval bronze candlestick, a late medieval gold pendant, a medieval brooch depicting George and the Dragon and sixty coins ranging in date from the reign of Henry III to Charles II.

Full description

November 1982. Found probably with metal detector.
Bronze candlestick, late medieval.
Three folding legs, V-shaped projection on top intended to hold rush? Part of top now missing.
Presumably included candle holder similar to pricket candlestick.
Probably used when travelling.

Photographed (awaiting inquest).
Various bronze items including finger ring inscribed SVS. Brooch depicting George and Dragon.
Two scabbard chapes.
Sixty coins range Henry III to Charles II including silver three-farthing Elizabeth I 1561.

Really gilded silver girdle end dating to around 1500.
Sold by Sotheby's 1984 to private buyer who then presented to BM (MLA).
