Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking here during 1982-83 recovered a diverse range of multi-period metal objects. Noteworthy finds included a medieval copper alloy hooked tag with openwork decoration, a post medieval dagger guard, a medieval buckle plate with incised decoration and part of a post medieval Hans Schultz jetton.

Full description

December 1982. South of Breckles church. Found with metal detector and fieldwalking.
Medieval sherd.
Bronze belt chape, undecorated, with silver? rivets, medieval.
Bronze hooked tag with openwork decoration, medieval.
Bronze sheet, guard? for dagger, post medieval.
Bronze perforated sheet, post medieval.
Bronze ring, undated.
Elizabeth I groat hammered 1558-1560 mint mark LIS.
Identifications by S. Margeson (NCM).

January-February 1983. Found with metal detector.
Medieval finds:
Looped rectangular buckle plate with serrated terminal and fastened with two bronze rivets. Decorated with incised lines and central hole.
Rectangular belt-stiffener similar to above with central hole, incised double-contoured border at each end.
Gilt-bronze part of rectangular buckle plate.
Post medieval finds:
Complete rumbler bell 'I H'.
Part jetton Hans Schultz.
Hooked tag with rose in central plate.
Silver belt-fitting?
