Full description

Pillbox. At end of St Olave's Swing Bridge, on railway embankment.
Polygonal, brick facing over concrete, small slits.
First noted by Pillbox Survey. No trace of a second mentioned at base of embankment. Is this a mistaken siting of the bridge pier from the Low Level station?
E. Rose (NAU), 28 April 1982.

See record form (S1) in file by source [1], who adds: common, type 22 pillbox on railway bank facing west. Date 1940.
D. Walker (NLA), July 1996.

May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The World War Two type 22 pillbox is visible on aerial photographs (S2). This structure is located within an area of barbed wire defences, which enclose and protect the river and rail crossings, see NHER 43670 for details.
S. Massey (NMP), 17 May 2006.
