Summary

This is the site of an Iron Age and Roman settlement, one of a number of Roman settlements strung out along a ridge. Fieldwalking has recovered Iron Age and Roman pottery, Roman flue tile and medieval and post medieval pottery.

Full description

1981 to 1982. Fieldwalking by Hales Hall Survey (retains).
Much Roman pottery and tile.
Medieval to post medieval pottery, finds.

Identified by A. Rogerson (NAU) 15 March 1982.

(S1) records this as Site 40, the site of an Iron Age and Roman settlement on a spur on the west side of the valley joining the Loddon Beck. The site is close to another Roman settlement, NHER 17979, and is one of a number of Roman settlements strung out along the ridge.
