Name:Soilmarks of undated field systems, undated, Roman, medieval and post-medieval artefacts

Summary

Aerial photography from 1977 recorded the soilmarks of two or three undated overlying field systems. A handful of pottery sherds from the Roman, medieval and post-medieval periods have also been recovered from this area. Metal-detecting in 2009 recovered medieval and post-medieval coins, a possible Romano-British copper alloy furniture fragment and metal objects dating from the medieval to post-medieval period. Metal-detecting in 2010 recovered a Romano-British coin blank and brooch, a medieval weigh, a post-medieval spoon and coin fragment.

2 August 1977. NAU aerial photography.
Miscellaneous soilmarks, mostly linear.

Apparently two or three overlying field systems.

1990 to 1991. Site extended to include field to west.
Fieldwalking over whole area but no significant metal finds. One probable Roman greyware pottery sherd; three medieval unglazed pottery sherds; one Glazed Red Earthenware sherd; scrap metal.

November-December 2009. Metal-detecting.
One medieval and two post-medieval coins; possible Roman copper alloy furniture leg fragment, (S1); medieval, post-medieval and undatable metal objects.
