Record Details

NHER Number:17184
Type of record:Monument
Name:Site of Roman settlements and Early Saxon inhumation cemetery

Summary

This was the site of two small Roman settlements dating to the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and two concentrations of Roman pottery and tiles have been found during fieldwalking. Metal detecting has recovered a number of Early Saxon brooches and other metal finds from this site or from NHER 17982 suggesting that one of the two sites was used as an inhumation cemetery during the Early Saxon period. An Iron Age coin and medieval and post medieval finds have also been found on the site.
