Name:Mesolithic, Neolithic and Early Bronze Age flints, medieval and post medieval pottery sherds

Summary

In 1978 a number of medieval and post medieval pottery sherds were recovered from the surface of this field, these concentrated on a slightly raised area which displayed darker soil than the surrounding field. Further north a number of worked flints were recovered including ?Mesolithic flakes, Neolithic flakes and a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowhead. In 1989 a Neolithic brown stained polished flint axehead was also recovered.

May-June 1978. Stray Finds.
Scatter on ploughed surface:
Medieval pottery sherds (shelly wares, green glazed Grimston ware, Langerwehe stoneware, Transitional glazed ware).
Post-medieval pottery sherds (lead-glazed earthenware, stoneware, Westerwald).

Site visited by A. Rogerson. Pottery found to be concentrated on grid reference at centre of spread, a slightly raised area with darker soil.

Same site, finds recovered on surface after subsoiling and drilling (mostly on area rather further north than above finds, but not all):
?Mesolithic small flint flakes.
1 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged flint arrowhead.
Retouched Neolithic flints flakes.
Some pieces perhaps natural.
