In 1767 a medieval shield boss made from brass was discovered in Wretham. At the time it was felt that this shield component was of Danish origin and had been engraved locally.

1767.
Embossment of shield of cast brass. Hook at end and back part of sword and rivets in several places. Lower part broken off by rough treatment of workman who dug it up.
