This week is Heritage Open Days! Come join us between Thursday and Sunday at one of four fascinating heritage sites. (Please note individual opening times and days)
Former RAF Coltishall Norfolk Heritage Tours

Heritage tours led by expert guides from the Spirit of Coltishall Association. Open top bus tours with commentary around the Second World War and Cold War airfield, to see the Technical Area, Hangars and Control Tower, a rare Second World War fighter pen and the Explosives Storage Area. The tour will include some stops and possibly access to one or two of the buildings. Also a chance to see Scottow Moor Solar, one of the largest solar farms in Europe. Teas, coffees, toilets and heritage displays in the car park.

Polkey’s Mill & Reedham Marsh Steam Engine House
Reedham Marshes, Reedham, Norfolk
The site has three drainage mills, one restored to full working order, which will be working (wind permitting), a steam engine house, which will be open for visitors to view and a diesel engine shed. It is hoped that the diesel engines will be operating on the day. Tours of Polkey Mill will take place in small groups.

Burgh Castle Fort: Life Outside the Walls

At Burgh Castle you can explore the best preserved Roman monument in East Anglia. On September 10th we'll be celebrating the Heritage Lottery-funded 'Life Outside the Walls' project which is exploring the settlement that grew up outside the walls of the Roman Fort. We will have Roman soldiers on horse back, storytelling, guided tours, a live archaeological test-pit and an exhibition of our research and oral history projects.

To celebrate this national heritage event, admission to the museum is free on Sunday for Heritage Open Days with behind the scenes guided tour around the Norfolk Collections Centre, where Norfolk Museum Service keeps some of the larger items from its reserve collections. Norfolk Historic Environment Service office will also be open for visitors, with mini talks about what we do.
