To coincide with the Council for British Archaeology's nationwide ‘Festival of British Archaeology’ the Historic Environment Service held an Archaeology Day at Gressenhall Farm & Workhouse museum on Sunday 22nd July 2012.
A wide range of activities and displays were laid on including pot making, flint knapping demonstrations, a large finds handling collection and an archaeological sand pit. Visitors were also able to look up the archaeology of their local area on the Historic Environment Record and view photographs from the Norfolk Air Photo Library. Experts from the Norfolk Historic Environment Service were also on hand to answer any questions and explain the work they do as well as provide information about sites of interest.
The event proved extremely popular, with over 500 visitors coming through the gates, and we are planning to hold an even bigger and better event to mark next year's festival.
