Groups of ironworking pits have previously been identified nearby in Sheringham Park (NHER 38344) and in Weybourne Wood (NHER 6280, NHER 6281, NHER 6282, NHER 38640) to the southwest.

A group of four shallow, sub-circular pits was identified during a rapid earthwork survey of Oak Wood, Cracking Hill, and Sheringham Wood. The depressions measure up to 4m in diameter and 0.3m deep and are similar in form to iron-working pits. However, little spoil was visible.
