Summary

About twelve Early Saxon loom weights were found here. Excavation of the site in 1963 recovered Early Saxon pottery and undated quern. Pottery and mortar was found here in 1972.

Full description

Around 1960. From garden of The Gables Guest House.
A number (about a dozen) of annular clay loom weights. One only preserved. Some other rubbish.

1963. Excavation.
Trial hole dug at rear of The Gables Guest House 1.2m (4 feet) east of site where annular clay loom weights were found in 1960. Disturbed loam down to 1.27m (4 feet 3 inches) where there was yellow sand. Sherds found down to 82.5cm (2 feet 9 inches) and also Mayen lava.
