Name:Bronze Age round barrow


This Bronze Age round barrow stands on what was once Garboldisham Heath. In July 1935 it measured about 1.95m high, compared to 0.7m in 1983. Prehistoric flint artefacts, including Bronze Age cores and flakes, have been found on the mound.

Full description

Large Bronze Age round barrow. Possibly 'Soldiers Hill'.

July 1935. Open heath.
1.95m (6.5ft) high, 42 paces diameter, say 38m (126ft), somewhat spread, full of rabbit holes. No ditch visible at close quareters.
Flint flakes found on mound, several burnt flints.

43m diameter, 1.2m high, grass covered in pasture. Depressions to southeast and northwest may be evidence for ditch.

Under sugar beet. Mound reduced from 1.2m in 1976 to about 70cm and spread.
