Name:Santon Late Iron Age and Roman hoard

Summary

A hoard of Late Iron Age and Roman objects was found in 1897. It was originally recorded as coming from Suffolk but is now thought to have been found in Santon. The hoard contains mid-1st century copper alloy and iron metalwork including smiths' tools, scrap metal, offcuts and unfinished new and renovated articles including ten brooches. Amongst the pieces are three fragments of Roman armour.

1897.
Important hoard of late Iron Age/early Roman metalwork in bronze.
Cauldron, originally ascribed to Santon Downham, Suffolk in error.
Possibly the same as a reported 'burial in armour'.
