Summary

Fieldwalking recovered a wide range of items dating from the Neolithic to the post medieval period including Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age worked flints, part of an possible Saxon circular shield, a Roman coin, a jet ring and Iron Age, Roman and medieval fragments of pottery.

Various finds from O.S. Field 196

1951-1952. Stray Find.
1 polished stone implement (April 1951; TL 6970 9052; c. 2). Perhaps an axe reused for another purpose. Petrology N161. Listed in Curtis Collection catalogue. T. Clough (NCM).

Various additional finds from this field are recorded in the Curtis Collection catalogue. It is noted in (S1) that these include:
1 Mesolithic flint tranchet axehead (Coll. No. 238; found 1952 at [1]) that was found in this location (1952; TL 697 905; c. 2). This object was seen by R. Jacobi and is described in (S2).
The Curtis Collection catalogue also lists a number of Neolithic and Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age objects (S2). These are listed in (S2) as:
5 leaf shaped arrowheads.
1 triangular arrowhead.
2 barbed and tanged arrowheads.
2 plano-convex knives.
