Full description
November 2004. Norfolk NMP.
World War Two military buildings, slit trenches and weapons pits, forming part of a camp, are visible on contemporary aerial photographs (S1-5). These remains were centred on TG 3433 3389 and located at an existing holiday camp. Slit trenches were present along the southern boundary of the site at TG 3436 3383 and TG 3433 3392 by 5 September 1940 (S1). A temporary structure, possibly a tent, was located at TG 34365 33875 on 16 July 1941 but had been removed by 30 July 1941, leaving a parchmark (S2-3). A large pit feature, of uncertain function, had also been excavated on the western side of the site at TG 3424 3387 by that date. By January 1943 several buildings had been constructed in the eastern part of the site. Two buildings with pitched roofs were present at TG 34450 33905 and TG 34430 33915 and two Nissen huts at TG 34370 33840 (S4). A further Nissen hut and other building had been constructed at TG 34420 33915 and TG 34375 33850 respectively by 27 June 1946 (S5). Additional slit trenches, weapons pits and marks from possible demolished buildings were present in the northern part of the site by this date.
