Summary

Metal-detecting in 1996 recovered a Roman coin and an Early Saxon belt mount. A Late Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint tranchet axehead was found here in 2001.

Full description

1996. Metal-detecting.
1 Roman illegible copper alloy coin, uncertain date.
1 Early Saxon gilt copper alloy square belt mount. 5th century or early 6th century, decorated with a saltire of four chip carved leaf shapes, each surrounded by tiny punch marks. In the centre are five punched circles, a further punched circle is between each leaf. The whole is surrounded by a border of crescentric punches (perhaps produced by tilting the circular punch). Two integral attachment shanks on reverse. See notes in file and polaroid (S1).
