Summary

Metal-detecting in 1993 and between 2009 and 2017 recovered Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton and Bronze Age, Roman, Early Saxon and Middle Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Late Iron Age/Early Roman brooch; Roman brooches, a key handle, copper alloy bead, pair of tweezers and finger-ring; an Early Saxon brooch, and buckle, Early Saxon/Middle Saxon gold and glass pendants; a Middle Saxon/Late Saxon hooked tag; a Late Saxon box mount with a lion and a lobed terminal flanked by leaf scrolls; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval knife and scale-tang knife end cap; medieval/post-medieval book clasps, a thimble, purse bar, pin, scale pan from a balance, copper alloy ring and a "paper-clip" rivet and a post-medieval rotary key, cloth seal and harness mount.

February 1993. Metal detecting find. [1].
Lovely Late Saxon box mount with leonine quadruped walking right, backwards turning head. Lobed terminal flanked by very nice leaf scrolls. Two holes above flange and one in lobed terminal.

Box mount is a stirrup-strap mount of Williams (1997) Class A Type 11 & is listed in op. cit., 62 as no.233.

Early/Middle Saxon gold oval pendant with central garnet and twelve radial garnet cloisonne cells.
Information from PAS import.
The Early/Middle Saxon pendant was declared Treasure at inquest (Ref: 2017 T960), and acquired by Norwich Castle Museum.

9 October 2017. Excavation.
A 5.7m x 5.7m trench was excavated by members of the Norfolk Historic Environment Service and the Portable Antiquities Scheme, assisted by a number of volunteer metal-detectorists. The purpose of the trench was to investigate an area where two Early Saxon gold pendants were in 2009 and 2017. No archaeological features were observed and the only finds was a medieval copper alloy buckle pin. The pin was not recorded on the PAS database.
