Name:Roman and post medieval finds

Summary

Metal-detecting between 1988 and 1990 and a systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey of part of this field in 2007 recovered a range of object including prehistoric worked flints; Roman pottery sherds; Roman and post-medieval coins, a post-medieval jetton and a number of other post-medieval and undated metal objects. These metal finds include a post-medieval copper alloy finger ring, buckle, possible George III copper alloy gaming counter, thimbles and a lead trading weight.

Found in easternmost part of field at [1]:
Bronze circular decorated object - a button?.
Bronze decorated object, perhaps a 'plate'.
Previously recorded as NHER 25097.

November 1990. Metal-detecting.
Found in northernmost part of field in vicinity of [1] (Context 1).
1 Roman coin (3rd century). See form in file.
1 post-medieval coin (Norwich farthing 1668), 1 Hans Krauwinckel jetton, 1 George III copper alloy cast medalet or gaming counter and 1 copper alloy finger ring.

October 2007. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey on proposed route of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Field 19).
Finds recovered included:
15 prehistoric worked flints.
2 Roman pottery sherds.
1 post-medieval coin, 2 thimbles, 1 buckle, 1 fastening and 1 lead trade weight.
1 undatable lead unidentified object and 1 lead waste fragment.
See reports (S1) and (S2) for further details. It should be noted that the figures in (S2) incorrectly place the majority of these finds in the field to the west (which was designated Field 18A and does not appear to have been examined)
