Name:Iron Age silver coin hoard

Summary

A hoard of 201 Late Iron Age silver coins in a pottery container sealed with a linen or hemp cloth was found by a metal detectorist between 1990 and 1998. Prehistoric worked flints, a fragment of Roman pottery and a Late Saxon hooked tag were also found.

23 March 1990. Found with metal detector and by excavation.
Icenian coin hoard.
Pottery vessel (S10), cloth fragments and about 150 coins recovered.

Late Saxon hooked tag, triangular, two holes for attachment. Hook broken off. Decorated with relief double bulleted border and bulleted vertical band down centre, on each side are groups of three pellets.
