Name:Medieval ditch and multi-period finds

Summary

A medieval ditch and pottery was observed by the Norfolk Archaeological Unit in 1992, during the digging of a new pipe trench. Finds also recovered include an assemblage of pottery dating from the prehistoric to post-medieval period; Roman and medieval roof tile fragments; fragments of lava quern; Roman and medieval coins; a Roman brooch, lead sopindle whorl and a post-medieval button. Additional finds recovered by metal-detecting in this area are now recorded under NHER 58367.

1989. Metal detecting.
Roman and medieval finds previously recorded under this number is now recorded under NHER 58367.

1992. Fieldwalking and Metal-detector Survey and Watching Brief.
Marham/Stow Bridge Pipeline.
Initial field survey of pipeline route followed by monitoring of topsoil stripping and excavation of pipe trench.
Ditches with medieval sherds seen in section.
Roman sherds and tile.
Possible Late Saxon sherd.
Medieval and post-medieval sherds, tile, brick and lava querns.
Suggested as indicating occupation site nearby.
