Summary

Metal detecting recovered a post medieval copper alloy bell and a post medieval copper alloy coin weight from Antwerp. The bell is decorated with angels faces and wings. The coin weight depicts a ship, the symbol of Antwerp, and the initials GG for Gerrit Geens, a moneyer.

Full description

Early 1986. Found with metal detector. Forestry Commission land planted with trees 1.2m (4 feet) high.
Bronze crotal bell decorated with angels faces and wings.
Bronze coin weight, square, weight 6.716 gm. On one face 1619 GG, above shell. On other a ship, GG is Gerrit Geens, moneyer working in Antwerp from 1591. Ship is Antwerp motif. Identified by S. Margeson (NCM).
