Full description

1884. 'From Hilgay Fen'.
No evidence of association with unlooped palstave in same collection.
Looped palstave apparently with V decoration on one face below the stop ridge, and ridges within the septum.

Formerly part of collection donated to the Metropolitan Borough of Hackney in 1910. Listed as No. 234 in the 1934 catalogue. Believed lost or destroyed. The Central Library was bombed (1939 to 1945) and burnt (1950s). The
collection was crated in 1964 to 1965 when some objects were believed to have been stolen. No bronze implements remain in the charge of the Archivist. R.R. Clarke (NCM) had received (S1), but the date and artist of this are unknown.

The relevance of an attached letter is unknown. Possibly same as NHER 2499, but probably not - compare drawings.
A. Lawson (NAU), 10 August 1981.
