Summary

This is the site of a post-medieval post mill, marked on Bryant's map of 1826. The mill went out of use in the 1870s, but is clearly visible on an aerial photograph as a circular ditch cropmark with internal bank and central post cross.

Full description

Site of wind mill marked on (S1), but not on (S2).

Post mill first marked on (S3), last miller went bankrupt in 1870.

The cropmark of the post mill described above is visible on an aerial photograph (S4), on land to the west of Mill Lane, Felthorpe. The central grid reference has been altered from TG 1621 1778 to TG 1626 1781.
The cropmark consists of a circular ditch measuring 1m in width, enclosing an area of approximately 13m in diameter. In the centre of the circular ditch there is a cross-shaped feature, diagnostic of postmills, surrounded by a bank up to 5.8m in width.
