Summary

A World War Two pillbox visible as a structure on aerial photographs of the area. This part of a larger defensive system around Brancaster Golf Club House. The pillbox was later used as a foundation for a small wooden structure, perhaps a lookout or beach hut.

Full description

Immediately west of golf club house, exposed by high tidal scour from bank.
Pill box. World War Two.

Concrete, polygonal, cast in corrugated iron. Large splayed gunports. Now full of sand.

Type 20E pillbox, situated within right angled kink in the beach defensive scaffold (NHER 26713), and was presumably positioned to work in conjunction with it. The structure appears to have later been utilised as a foundation for a small wooden structure (lookout/beach hut), visible on 1953 oblique image (S2).
