Metal-detecting, field observations and an excavation between 1979 and 2012 have revealed a possible Roman settlement, a Roman coin hoard and multi-period finds. Roman building material, pottery, metalwork and a pit seen in the side of a ditch suggest that there were buildings and a settlement on the site. A dispersed Roman coin hoard buried in the late 1st century AD was excavated in 1981; numerous coins from it have been recovered since. Other objects discovered include prehistoric flint artefacts, Iron Age and medieval pottery and medieval to post-medieval metalwork.
