Summary

The end of a Neolithic polished flint axehead was found on the surface of a rose field in 1977. A systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey of part of this field in 2007 recovered no finds apart from possibly a small number of prehistoric worked flints.

1977. Stray Find.
Found on surface of rose field at [1] (now Context 1);
1 Neolithic polished flint axehead (butt). Iron staining only on unbroken surface.
Donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1977.245).

November 2006. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey. Extended to whole field [2].
Field survey on proposed route of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Field 22).
No archaeological finds were recovered.
See reports (S1) and (S2) for further details. It should be noted that the interim report (S2) suggests that a small number of worked flints were actually recovered in this field.
