Summary

A Mesolithic flint tranchet axehead was found at this location in 1960. Metal-detecting in 2017 recovered a post-medieval coin, 2 post-medieval tokens and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a medieval harness pendant frame, a medieval/post-medieval button and post-medieval sword belt mounts, buckles, a cloth seal, pipe tamper and a lead weight.

Full description

August 1960. Stray Find. [1].
Found 900 ft [274m] south of The Grove, Great Plumstead:
1 Mesolithic chipped flint axe, tranchet type. Donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1960.388). Information from (S1). This discovery was first reported in (S2) and is also listed in (S3). It was later examined by R. Jacobi and is described in detail in (S4).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 7 May 2014.

February-March 2017. Metal-detecting. Site extended to the whole field. [2].
