Stater

A stater is a type of Iron Age gold coin. In Norfolk several different types of gold stater were produced. The Norfolk wolf stater has a design of a ferocious looking animal baring his teeth. Other types have more abstract designs perhaps based on flowers. Gallo-Belgic staters are also found in the county. These were probably produced on the continent, although some people think they may have been made in Britain.
