E. Rose (NAU), 29 July 1982.
Pre 1983. Unidentified local informant quoted on NCM map as saying this is locally said to be the site of the village pound 'Pound Field'.
Compiled by E. Rose (NAU), 7 October 1983.
GRID REF CORRECTED FROM OVERLAY.
E. Rose (NAU), 11 February 1985.
27 July 1995. NLA aerial photography (S1).
Cropmark visible.
H. Clare (NLA), 20 April 2001.
14 June 1996. NLA aerial photography (S2).
Photograph suggests that the ring ditch is in fact a parched circular feature with an entrance, possibly a Roman temple.
Although geological patterning in the area appears to be causing cropmark response reversal, i.e. negative cropmarks showing as dark etc, so caution should be applied.
S. Massey (NLA), 7 August 2001.
19 June 1996. NLA aerial photography (S3).
Crop/parchmark of circular feature with possible entrance/causeway still visible.
S. Massey (NLA), 13 August 2001.
March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a possible Romano-Celtic temple alongside the Roman Pye Road (NHER 7947 and 52170) are visible on aerial photographs (S4-S7). The site is centred on TG 2232 0130 and consists of a circular parchmark, 13.5m in diameter and with walls, banks or compacted surface up to 1.5m wide. A break in the parchmark combined with a slight out-turning of parchmark to the west would indicate an entrance facing the Roman road. Given the appearance of the cropmarks the previously interpretations of a medieval pound and a Bronze Age ring ditch would seem unlikely.
S. Horlock (NMP), 23 March 2009.
