Name:Cropmarks of possible medieval moat and multi-period pottery sherds

Summary

The Ordnance Survey noted a possible medieval moat at this location. Aerial photographs taken in 1996 clearly show the cropmarks of this moat. Various finds have been recovered from the site and these include sherds of Iron Age, medieval and post medieval pottery along with part of a post medieval tobacco pipe.

Full description

Context 1.
Moat (Ordnance Survey) shown as irregular, embanked, with linear pond to east - outer enclosure.
Destroyed according to Ordnance Survey.

April 1987. Levelled, grass cover patchy, ill drained.
Two non-glazed Grimston.
Four medieval unglazed.
One medieval glazed.
Two glazed Grimston.
Bowl rim like late medieval/transitional, with internal horizontal band of white slip under green glaze.
