Full description
Marked as Waxham Drain Mill on (S1). (S2) shows as brick with skeletons of cap, stocks, Y-wheel; mentions gear inside.
[1], Millwright, states that tower has subsided in five places and been straightened on five different occasions. As a result it has become known locally as the Devil's Mill and a legend has grown up that the miller was a necromancer.
E. Rose (NAU), 8 February 1985.
Listed building description (S3) says sails were Cubitts patent and the spider is intact. Interior machinery is octagonal windshaft, brakewheel, and internal turbine.
Seen from other side of dyke April 2007. Brick tower has gaping holes. This must have had the largest sails of any Norfolk mill and been of “Spanish” appearance; as the windshaft has collapsed the stocks now rest on the ground and the tail wheel hangs down.
E. Rose (NLA), 2 April 2007.
