Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1992 and 2017 recovered prehistoric worked flint, including a Neolithic core, knife and scraper and a Neolithic/Bronze Age scraper and flake; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval and post-medieval coins and undated, Bronze Age, Roman and Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undated lead weights; Bronze Age molten fragment of casting waste or metalworking debris; a Roman terret; a Late Saxon bridle cheek piece from a horse harness; a medieval buckle, strap-end, commemorative brass, weight, harness fittings and a gold iconographic finger ring; a medieval/post-medieval molten copper alloy vessel fragment and knife end stop from whittle tang knife and a post-medieval buckle and harness mount.
Cropmarks previously recorded on this site are now recorded as NHER 38572.

Four sherds; one Roman grey with burnished line decoration, two ?Roman/medieval unglazed, one medieval/post medieval. Modern coins, not recorded.

May-June 2012. Metal-detecting.
Two Neolithic scrapers, 24 sherds of Roman pottery, 1 sherd medieval pottery, and 1 medieval harness fitting.
A fragment of a medieval monumental brass (S2, S3) was also recovered. This has been identified as part of the canopy from a brass commemorating Sir Miles Stapleton and his two wives (1466). A surviving piece of this brass was re-set in the original slab in Ingham Church (NHER 8220) in 1956 (S4).
