Full description
April 2014. Rapid Identification Survey. HA
A linear hollow in Lynford Park (NHER 30470). It measures 15m by 8m by 0.8m deep. It has gently sloping sides and a concave base.
The hollow is probably associated with sand and gravel extraction. It is likely minerals gathered from here were used to make adjacent tracks. It could be a parkland feature, although it is equally possibly it post-dates the conversion of the park to forestry.
D. Robertson (HES), 24 July 2015.
May 2019. Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The earthwork observed in 2014 has been identified in lidar imagery (S1).
This earthwork has not been transcribed separately - the transcription has been recorded as part of NHER 30470 along with further features relating to Lynford Park and Gardens identified from the Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) survey. The mapped extent of this existing HER record has however been amended to correlate with the location and extent of the feature on the lidar imagery [1].
J.Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 14 May 2019. Amended H. Hamilton (HES), 2 February 2021.
