Summary

The amount of medieval iron slag recovered from this site suggests that it was an iron working site in the medieval period, and medieval pottery has also been found. A 200m long area of two depressions of up to 25m wide and 3m deep were recorded during the Felbrigg Estate Woodland Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey in 2006.

Full description

October 22 1953. Inside Cromer Lodge Gates of Felbrigg Hall.
Iron slag on both sides of drive and over whole area.
Medieval pot rims picked up by R. W. Ketton-Cremer amoung some of the slag.

Felbrigg Estate Woodland Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey. Great Wood, Site 18:
A near 200m long area of two depressions up to 25m wide and 3m deep, aligned northnorthwest-southsoutheast, the northern longer one cut by the drive.
Some slight undulations to the east may be related but are very amorphous.
