Summary
Between 2008 and 2009 a field survey conducted by the Breckland Society recorded banks and enclosures associated with the medieval rabbit warren that had been owned by Thetford Priory and also the remains of the lodge built before 1499.

Full description
2008 - 2009. Warrens of Breckland field survey.
The perimeter banks of the warren are shown on Faden's 1797 map with the eastern bank following the parish boundary between Bodney and Threxton (now Hilborough and Little Cressingham). The need to maintain the boundary between the warren and neighbouring land is documented in 1791 during the exchange of land between Lord Peter and George Tasburgh. The lodge is shown on Faden's map and is still visible as slight earthworks. It was built at some time before 1499. During the medieval period the warren was owned by Thetford Priory and in 1545 it was given to the Duke of Norfolk and passed between numerous owners before it became part of the estate of William Amherst Tyssen-Amherst in 1870. The land is now owned by the Ministry of Defence.
