Summary

An undated ring ditch is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. It is the remains of a round barrow and is probably Bronze Age. In 1961 and 1976 the barrow mound survived, but there was evidence that it had been damaged by ploughing.

Full description

1959. Ring ditch on St Joseph aerial photographs's.

September 1961.
Mound about 0.9m (3 feet) high, much spread by ploughing about 30m (100 feet) diameter north to south, about 33m (110 feet) east to west.
R.R. Clarke (NCM).

'Barrow 1'. 34m diameter, 50cm high, looks as if it has been dug into. Ploughed.
(S1), (S2), (S3).
A.J. Lawson (NAU), 1976.

January 1984.
Two entries given by J. Wymer for this county number.
One says 'Ploughed and much degraded but still 0.5m high; four flakes found'.
Other says 'Much reduced from 0.5m high as in 1976, now only slight swelling'.
Is one of these under a wrong county number, or were two visits made in January between which the mound was ploughed away?
E. Rose (NAU).
