March 2007. Norfolk NMP.
Evidence of former medieval peat extraction may be visible on aerial photographs to either side of the Sutton Broad (S1). All of this area is marked as Stalham Broad on the 1797 Faden map (S2) and is still depicted as open water on the Ordnance Survey first edition map (6 inch, 1879-86). The site is centred on TG 3727 2366. This former extraction is suggested by an amorphous darker and wetter area within the marsh to either side of the narrow Sutton Broad.
