Record Details

NHER Number:27716
Type of record:Monument
Name:Cropmark of a ring ditch

Summary

A cropmark of a ring ditch, possibly a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible on aerial photographs. It is located within an extensive cropmark complex of possible Iron Age to Roman or medieval date (NHER 21840). It lies on the north side of a possible trackway and is respected by the adjacent field or enclosure boundaries. This relationship may indicate that the barrow was still visible as an earthwork when the surrounding enclosures were laid out. It lies at approximately 3m OD on the shallow north-facing slope of a stream valley.

Full description

October 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A cropmark of a ring ditch, possibly a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). This cropmark is located at TG 4547 1211 and was previously recorded within NHER 21840. A single circular ring ditch is visible as a cropmark. It is defined by a narrow ditch and has an external diameter of 29m. There are no breaks or entrances visible in the ring ditch. It is possible that it relates to a round barrow of Bronze Age date. An oval enclosure of unknown date is located 75m to its northeast.
