Full description

May 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A ring ditch is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1) to (S4), centred at TG 4831 1646. It is most likely to be the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, part of barrow cemetery NHER 27342. It is roughly circular in shape and measures approximately 17m in diameter. A break in the ditch on its western side is as likely to be caused by the cropmark being masked as by the presence of a genuine causeway. The ring ditch is overlain by (or underlies), and in one case is respected by, several linear ditches. These form part of a field system of probable Bronze Age date (NHER 27338), which presumably dates to later in the Bronze Age than the barrow cemetery. An off centre pit within the ring ditch may mark an associated burial.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 10 May 2005.
