Full description
November 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two pillbox is visible on aerial photographs at the base of the cliffs at Overstrand (S1-2). This structure forms part of a much wider system of coastal defences and training areas all along the cliffs at Cromer and Overstrand (NHER 38940-1, 38925, 39845, 38948-9).
The pillbox is located at TG 2493 4096 and is hexagonal in shape, suggesting that it is a type 22. This structure was constructed in-between September 1940 and August 1941 (S1, S3). In 1941 the pillbox has clearly been camouflaged with vegetation (S1). The structure cannot be identified on aerial photographs from 1946 (S4).
